Sorry. That post below didn't show up at ALL like the preview showed it. Hope that makes sense. :)

Joey is traumatized after being stuck in the
bathroom cabinet. (She climbed in there
herself of course!)

This is how she usually looks.

Fun in the backyard. What a bunch of posers!!
Wow! I'm a sucky blogger! It's almost Christmas. We had an awesome Halloween and Thanksgiving. Joey has been stuck at 16 lbs for about 6 months or so until last week. She (along with everyone else) ate herself stupid and has gained-and maintained-an extra 2 lbs! Yay! We hope she'll keep it on! She also started walking last month and is really starting to be more sure-footed. Dang that girl is cute. She still holds the title of "therapy baby" to me. She is getting a real sense of humor and has learned that daddies are for wrestling! She is also speaking a lot better than she should be. She started putting 3 syllable words and phrases together, like "cereal, " and "who is that?" Crazy huh?

Coleman and Lillie are still good. Coleman is lovin' his preschool and I swear he's smarter than me already. He spouts off random facts, like his dad, about things I've never heard of. I shouldn't be surprized since he knew what a trapezoid was at the age of 1!! I don't think I knew that until 9th grade geometry!

Lillie is as funny as ever! Today at Wal-mart, she had her first encounter with an escalator. She couldn't figure out how to get on it (kinda reminding me of that scene from "Elf") and she ended up falling on her butt and rolling back down. Meanwhile, I've got Jo in my arms and I'm frantically trying to run DOWN the escalator. Of course, I saw a guy I had a crush on in High School standing at the bottom smirking at the whole situation. I pretended not to notice that I recognized him, and hoped he didn't remember all the classes we've had together since 3rd grade! It was funny though! Lillie's frantic amazement was worth a thousand words.

I guess another exciting thing in my life is that Twilight finally arrived! Yay! Can't wait for the next one. I managed to get Ira sucked into the series as well (I know he's a guy. If you run into him, don't make fun of him too bad). It's sappy and corny and I love it all! Am I team Edward or team Jacob, you might ask? Usually Jacob because I'm married to him and Edward's too perfect, but lately I've been leaning towards Edward.

Random funny story: The other day, I took the kids to the credit union (not bank) and as I was still signing my receipts, Coleman took off out the building, down the stairs, and into the parking lot towards our truck. I was panicking as any mother does when their child's life is in danger. It was near a busy intersection too! We had a long talk about staying together and never running around where cars drive. He usually doesn't do this, so it really caught me off guard. Anyway, when Ira got home, he had an even better idea. He showed Coleman his pumpkin that he painted and had him feel how it was "hard like your head." Then he proceeded to place the pumpkin under the tire of the truck and he slowly inched forward and watched Coleman and Lillie's eyes pop and their jaws drop as the pumpkin exploded and flattened under the tire. Then, of course, he explained how this is what happens to you if a car doesn't see you because you're running through a parking lot or in the street. And then he tells him to just imagine what would've happened if he were going fast! I could just see those wheels turning in his little pumpkin head! If any of you are struggling with keeping your kids out of traffic, this technique works quite effectively!

Well, back to Ira...he's made a career change. Due to the recession and all of the ups and downs that complete the construction package, Ira has toyed with the idea of changing careers for quite some time. I believe this time that he's serious. He'll finish the 1 class he has left for his construction degree (why not, right?) and then he's moving on to the medical field to hopefully become a Physician's Assistant. They make great money, they're in high demand, it's recession-proof, it won't kill his body, and he could have a job anywhere in the world! They're basically versatile doctors that don't have to pay malpractice insurance. However, there is the matter of all that school to get through and somehow support me and 3 kids while doing it. Also, PA programs are elite and scarce in UT and we might have to go back out of state for school (which wouldn't be too bad actually). We're in for more financial stress, but we believe the end game will be worth it. Maybe he'll have his Master's Degree next time I update this blog. Ha! Ha!

Do the Dew, baby!!

Mountain Dew for her pre-road tip breakfast...nice call, Daddio! She does make a cute Dew poster child though...

Sorry about the funky background. It says the background has changed from brown to white...but clearly it hasn't. Hopefully I'll get help soon or it'll just have to look weird!

Anyway, life is good and crazy. We're still trying to decide what we're doing with our lives concerning school and a career. Ira is interested in so many things that he's just not sure if he wants to stick with the construction path. It's in his blood and he could easily spend the rest of his life in that field, but he's tired of using and abusing his body and getting injured. The career flavor of the week is Air Traffic Control Specialist. Only a couple years of school, mandatory age 55 retirement, and the average salary is $120k/yr. Very high stress though. There's also no schools for it in UT among other downsides. We'll see if this kick-of-the-week lasts any longer than the others.

FYI: Pretty sure the National Guard kick is out of the picture for good now. Yay!

Well, besides the whole family having a nasty cold, we're all doing well. Jo is growing like crazy, and still the most mellow baby I've ever seen. Cole is smarter than ever (about to pass me up I'm afraid), and I've discovered the key to Lillie's happiness--singing and dancing. We may have a little actress on our hands!

Summer 2008

Johanna's trademark smile

Cole got head-butted by a goat last month--and survived!

Fingerpaint fun in the tub! Get these two to hair and makeup!!

Me and my "seesters" on Mother's Day

Coleman and Lillie LOVE their baby sister!

It's been yet another crazy couple of months. I haven't been up on the blog, sorry. Of course, I actually got it up so that's more than I ever thought would happen. Well, here's what's new: Ira started his new job with Big-D Construction as a foreman a few weeks ago and is anxious to get started on his first big project hopefully in the next week. For now he's working in their wood shop and is getting ready to scream because of all "the mindless work." His project will be overseeing some warranty work on a Wal-mart parking lot. He is anxious for it to start.
I am yet again fighting off another sickness. This week it's a cold and another fever. Yay! Other than that I am just keeping busy watching my nephew once a week, my 3 beautiful children every day, and I'm pretty busy with my YW calling. It's all good and crazy fun.
Coleman is just getting funnier every day! He learned a silly dance from some TV show and does it for everyone now. Lillie turned 2 on June 16! Now we have a 2 yr old and a 3 yr old--insane!! Anyway, Lillie didn’t want shoes or toys for her birthday, she just wanted a “popern ba” (popcorn ball) for her 2nd birthday. Cole tried to convince Lillie that she wanted a backhoe. Me: “Girls don’t want backhoes, they like pretty things.” Cole: “Well, we could buy her a backhoe and then buy some pretty flower stickers to put all over it!” [Then with all the excitement of an epiphany and with clasped hands...] “They have them at Costco!!!”
After that, I was talking to Cole about the days they were born. I told him that Johanna was born on a Sunday and he and Lillie were both born on Fridays. His reply to that was, “But Friday is GARBAGE DAY!!!” To think that he could be born on garbage day! Needless to say the kids had me rolling in laughter all day. We just had the family over for a little backyard pool/trampoline party with cake and ice cream for her B-day. It was fun for everyone. It’s hard to believe all the changes I have seen in her in the past 2 years. She is quite a character. I can’t decide whether she’s more like me or Ira. She is usually more quiet and reserved around new people, and she gets embarrassed easily in the last month or so. My visiting teachers were over a few weeks ago and Lillie tripped in front of them and hit her head on our coffee table. Her face turned bright red and she looked at them like she was ashamed and then she turned and ran into her room to go cry instead of coming to me for comfort like usual. She obviously didn’t want them to see.
I’ve never seen Cole do anything like that. In fact, he is the exact opposite. He is the first person to introduce himself and ask everyone around him personal questions. The other day we picked Ira's brother Ben up from the airport for Father’s Day. On the way, we were talking about how Cole was getting hair on his legs and that meant he was growing bigger. He replied, “Yeah, and Uncle Lance [my hairy little bro] is growing really big! He has hair ALL over his body! He even has hair in his belly button!” Then to our amazement, as soon as Ben got into the truck Cole asked him, “Benny, do you have hair all over your body?” Ben was a little shocked but replied, "Pretty much," and we all had a good laugh about it.
Anyway, back to Chica! Her new favorite thing (besides shakin' her booty to anything with a beat) is to hide inside the fridge to eat. If I’ve told her she can’t have some more yogi or something, she will sit inside the fridge and eat it. The fridge door is only open a few inches so I can hardly tell that she’s in there. I lost her a few times and panicked until I came to find her in there. It’s a pretty funny thing to see though.
Then there is Johanna! My perfect little angel! I think she’s the reward for all my hard work. She is my own personal stress-reliever. She was laughing and grabbing her toes at 4 months, rolling over at 5 months, learning to sit and even trying really hard to crawl at 6 months and now she will be 8 months on Friday and she's crawling all over the place. Jo also pulls the funniest faces! She’s getting a little bit of separation anxiety because I think she’s finally recognizing who her mommy is. She is such a mellow baby though. I often forget where she is because I set her down in a room and she is so quiet that I don’t hear her and forget where I put her. However, only time will tell if she’ll stay sweet and quiet. If all babies were like her, the world would be full of pregnant women!

It's time to catch you all up on our crazy lives. Yes, we have finally moved into our new house. It's still somewhat of a construction zone but it's liveable. Lindsay no longer has to wash the dishes in the bathtub (we got our kitchen sink! Wahoo!) Thanks again to all who helped us finish the house and move in a mad dash before Ira's sister's wedding!

We have had a very insane couple of months with two moves, three babies, one dog attack, a sledding accident, a wedding, a divorce, Easter, a new ward, new callings, an engagement, a broken engagement, a sold motorcycle and truck, a birthday, and construction, construction, construction!!!

Amidst all the madness, we sort-of forgot about our third born and decided that now since she's been around for 4 1/2 months that we ought to bless her in church. We finally blessed Johanna Jane Ashton yesterday. It was a lot of fun. She is finally official! We only invited immediate family members (which is still a quarter of the congregation). Sorry if any of you feel left out. Everyone got to come see how many things we have left to complete on our house. Thanks again to all who helped out yesterday--love ya!

Anyway, we really enjoy our new house, ward, and neighborhood. Yes it is Rose Park, as many of you keep pointing out, but it is a really cute neighborhood in North Rose Park. It is really fun being a few minutes from the Gateway, the Temple, and everything downtown has to offer. It's a great location. In face, there's a cute house next door in case anyone's interested. There are tons of young families in this area and we're already starting to feel like we're making friends. Hopefully we'll continue to feel welcome and be able to stay put for at least 5 years.

Well, that is the last few months for our family in a VERY brief nutshell. We love hearing from all of you so keep us posted on your lives and keep sending pictures!
